EXTREMELY FINE ORIGINAL-GUM BLOCK OF TWELVE OF THE AUSTRIA 0.6-KREUZER NEWSPAPER STAMP.

This block amply demonstrates the narrow vertical space between stamps of the plate, which makes it difficult to find copies with wide margins. The Rothschild Collection contained an unused block of 42 and a strip of three of this type and no other multiples. The large block may or may not be intact.

Block of 30, large margins all around including bottom left sheet margins, cancelled and tied by neat strikes of "Spital 19 Nov." handstamps on large piece, tiny nick at top right corner, one light toned spot, block lifted and then hinged in place

EXTREMELY FINE. THIS IS THE LARGEST RECORDED MULTIPLE OF THE AUSTRIA ONE-KREUZER 1861 NEWSPAPER STAMP AND WAS ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE BARON ALFONSE ROTHSCHILD AUCTION. A RARITY OF THE HIGHEST ORDER.

This is the finest of the three largest multiples. A block of 24 is illustrated in the 1976 Ferchenbauer catalogue. This block of 30 is noted in the Ferchenbauer catalogue and has a stated value of DM 175,000.
