Carrier, Plate Crack (LO1 var). Position 14R with part of crack at
lower left, huge top and bottom margins showing parts of adjoining stamps,
full at left, large to just touched at upper right, beautiful proof-like
impression and rich color, cancelled by red "New York" dateless
circle with small remnants of cover showing trace of tying cancel, also
large part of original gum still intact, small thin spot, thin and sealed
tear at bottom (almost invisible)VERY FINE APPEARANCE. ONLY FOUR EXAMPLES OF THE FRANKLIN CARRIER WITH THE PLATE CRACK ARE KNOWN TO US. Our records of LO1 plate cracks includes off-cover and on-cover singles (ex our Golden sale lots 14 and 15), and an off-cover copy in the Miller Collection in the New York Public Library.
