147		30c Ultramarine & Carmine (121). Original gum, almost perfectly centered with wide and well-balanced margins all around EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A REMARKABLY FRESH AND BEAUTIFULLY-CENTERED ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 30-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE. The 10c and 30c 1869 Pictorial stamps have unframed designs that can be difficult to judge in terms of centering and margins, because the wings at top and flag points at sides are often touched by the perforation holes. Block of nine, black cancellation typically found on larger multiples of this stamp, few perf separations sensibly reinforced, lower left stamp rounded corner at bottom right, lower right stamp light creases VERY FINE AND RARE USED BLOCK OF NINE OF THE 30-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE. Rich colors, light strike of cork cancel leaves vignette clearly visible, centered slightly to lower left but perfs are well clear all around, small tears at top right and bottom left and small filled thins at center VERY FINE APPEARANCE. ONLY 91 EXAMPLES OF THE 15-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL INVERT ERRORS ARE RECORDED IN OUR CENSUS. Our census of 1869 Inverts contains 91 examples of the 15c Invert, including three unused and 88 used (one in the British Library's Tapling collection and three No. 119c varieties). We estimate that only twelve to fifteen used copies are sound, including copies with tiny corner creases. A large number -- more than half -- have serious faults or repairs.
