12c Greenish Black, Reprint
(44). Without gum as issued, perfectly centered with framelines
complete on all sides, fine impression on bright paperEXTREMELY FINE GEM. ONE OF THE FINEST 12-CENT 1857 REPRINTS EXTANT. The narrow spaces between stamps on the 12c 1857 Reprint plate allowed almost no room for large 12-gauge perforations, and the Reprints were generally perforated into parts of the design. Examples such as this, with the framelines complete on all four sides, are extremely rare. (Image) |

90c Deep Blue, Reprint
(47). Without gum as issued, deep rich color on bright paper, choice
centering with wide marginsEXTREMELY FINE. A CHOICE EXAMPLE OF THE 90-CENT 1857 REPRINT. This is a difficult stamp to find with such wide margins at top and bottom. Due to narrow spacing on the plate, there was little room for 12-gauge perforations, and most examples have the perforations either close or touching at top or bottom. (Image) |
