59 c image5c Indian Red (28A). Vertical strip of three, beautiful centering and bright rich color, used with 10c Green, Ty. III-III-IV (33-33-34) horizontal strip of three (Positions 62-64L1), tied by "New Orleans La. Nov. 18" circular datestamp on blue 1858 folded cover to Barcelona, Spain, cover with internal hinge reinforcement, 10c stamps with perfs scissor trimmed at left and bottom, bottom 5c in strip just trimmed at bottom -- typical separation from New Orleans where sheets were cut into strips for use on foreign mail

VERY FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE FRANKING COMBINING THE 5-CENT INDIAN RED AND THE 10-CENT TYPES III AND IV. THE TOP TWO STAMPS IN THE INDIAN RED STRIP OF THREE ARE EXTREMELY FINE.

Our Levi records of the 5c Indian Red contain no other examples of this franking, although one or two others are probably extant.
