5c Carmine, Error (467).
Single error in block of six, tied by "Bergenfield N.J. Dec. 31, 1918"
duplex on cover addressed locally, some slight toning along flapsVERY FINE. FEWER THAN TEN EXAMPLES OF THIS ERROR ARE KNOWN ON COVER. A WONDERFUL RARITY. In an article published in the B.I.A. in September 1984, Larry Weiss records only eight covers bearing the 5c Carmine Perf 10 error. Of these eight, two were used significantly later, in 1936. This is the last of the contemporary (1917-1918) usages. With 1988 P.S.E. certificate (Image) |
