FINE APPEARANCE. ONE OF ONLY FIVE USED BLOCKS OF FOUR IN PRIVATE HANDS, AND THE ONLY ONE TO BEAR A RED CANCEL. A GREAT RARITY.

Seven used blocks are recorded. The largest recorded used multiple is a block of six, which, along with a used block of four, are part of the Hirzel collection in the Swiss Postal Museum.

With 1969 P.F. certificate noting "a few minute defects". The used block in our September 1997 Rose sale realized $40,000 hammer, and this block realized $32,500 hammer in our 1998 Rarities sale. (Image)
