Civil War Letters. Large album of covers and letters arranged
chronologically, from 1860 thru 1865, virtually all from Union soldiers, a
significant number are on patriotic covers or with illustrated enclosures,
first is datelined "S. Shaftsbury (Vt.) Decr. 23, 1860" with
contents discussing South Carolina's secession, some with fascinating
contents incl. one dated Charlestown Va., July 20, 1861 and reading in part
"...only for Colonel Clark, blast him, we might have been there yet, but
the boys got so sick of him they went right to his and gave 3 groans for
him and 3 cheers for Lieut. Col. Seward. But he is played out now, for they
have him under arrest ever since we got to Martinsburg.", many others
also have interesting content regarding troop movements, popular opinion
and other interesting details, most all have typed transcriptions, few
faults to be expected, a Very Fine and fascinating glimpse at the Civil War
though the eyes of those who lived it |

somewhat battle-worn, both are fascinating military books |
