THE THREE 1902 DOLLAR VALUES, PAYING A LEGITIMATE POSTAL RATE FROM HAWAII, USED FOR THE PURPOSE OF SENDING TROPICAL PLANTS FOR EXHIBITION AT THE 1904 LOUISIANA PURCHASE EXPOSITION

This canvas wrapper enclosed a parcel of tropical plants, the Bird's Nest Fern, sent by N. E. Lemmon to David R. Francis, President of the Louisiane Purchase Exposition Company. It is one of the few recorded covers with a complete set of 1902 dollar values and the only known non-philatelic usage. The Hawaiian origin for 1902 dollar values is also believed to be singularly represented by this example. A 20th Century cover of the greatest rarity and postal history significance (Image Magnifier)
