this Bureau commemorativeA VERY FINE AND EXTREMELY RARE IMPRINT AND PLATE NUMBER BLOCK OF THE 50-CENT TRANS-MISSISSIPPI ISSUE, WHICH IS VIRTUALLY UNOBTAINABLE IN PLATE MULTIPLES OF THIS SIZE The Trans-Mississippi 50c, $1.00 and $2.00 values are rarely found in plate number blocks larger than four stamps. Our search of auction records dating back to the 1930s produced one other 50c plate number block larger than four stamps, in addition to the unique complete pane of 50. The Scott Catalogue reduced the value of a 50c plate number block of six from $20,000 to $13,000 in its sweeping 1990 repricing effort, but there was no market basis for this devaluation. In fact, the market values for 19th century commemorative plate blocks have increased during the past decade. An outstanding exhibition piece and one of the rarest of commemorative plate number blocks (Image Magnifier) |
