A VERY FINE AND SPECTACULAR FRANKING WITH $9.27 POSTAGE REPRESENTED BY THE ENTIRE 1902-03 REGULAR ISSUE

While philatelic in inspiration, this cover is an extremely rare "complete set" usage of dollar denominations, a practice that originated with the Columbian Issue. Such covers exist for the Columbian and Trans-Mississippi commemorative issues, but none is known for the regular Bureau dollar issues of 1894 and 1895. The purpose of such covers was to supply European stamp dealers with attractive used examples of recent issues, the stamps were usually soaked off, thus surviving intact covers are extremely rare today. Though one must leave open the possibility of others existing, this is the first time we recall seeing the entire 1902-03 Issue on a single cover.

An outstanding 20th Century usage (Image Magnifier)
