FRENCH CONSULAR POST IN JERUSALEM, 6fr, 10fr Orange and Green (Bale I.106,I.107). Single of each, and tied together by "Jerusalem Pastes Francaises 15 Mai 48" cds on cover to Limoges France, signed by Rene
Neuville, French Consul with his seal and consulate impt on flap. Address of Christian Courdy. These stamps were created when Neuville overprinted 150 Chancellery stamps, "Jerusalem Pastes Francaises 6 Frs" and "Paste aerienne 10 Frs" and
obliterated the word "gratis" with a heavy bar. A 2nd issue of 2,000 was made on May 15, with the chancellery adhesive overprinted "20 mils." A 3rd issue with Scott 580 overprinted "Jerusalem 20 milliemes" was made May 26. The lot includes a cover
franked with the 2nd & 3rd Issue and tied by Oct 6 1948 cds and signed Neuville. In addition there is a 20 mils (Bale 1.108) tied on piece and the 20 mils on 6fr (1.109) tied on two signed covers, and a mint single. All with matching address of
Christian Courdy. Very Fine, Extremely Rare. Included is a typescript of a 1961 Linn's article discussing these issues at length with a description of the Courdy combo cover ("unique" though Bale notes that 30 such pairs exist joined in se-tenant
fashion, "Including covers "). 1990 Ceres for off-cover singles, 15,000 frs and 26,500 frs respectively (Image
